Recital Photo Policy

We understand that our recital is an important event in your child’s life, and you will no doubt want photographs! There are several opportunities to buy or take photos of your dancer.

Recital Videos/DVDs

Each year, we hire a professional videographer to tape the entire recital. The same videographer who did an excellent job on last year’s Recital will return this year. You may purchase just one “Act” or any number of “Acts” from any of our five shows. See the DVD Order Form for details and prices.

DVD Order Deadline – May 20

DVD Order Form will be posted in the spring.

Please bring form to studio. Do not mail.

Professional Recital Portraits

We will have a professional photographer available at the studio before the recital to take pictures, for those families who would like to purchase them.

If you would like a professional to photograph your child in costume, we will have two Costume Picture Days – one at the studio, and the other at Swarthmore College at the Dress Rehearsal. A schedule of times when the photographer is available at our studio will be placed in the studio waiting area. You must sign this list to schedule an appointment for this day. Photos at our Dress Rehearsal will be on a first come, first served basis.

Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Studio, 11:00am – 4:30pm

•By Appointment – Sign up on the “Photo List” in Studio waiting room.

•You may wear your hair any way you would like.

Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Swarthmore Dress Rehearsal, 2:30pm – 10:00pm

•First come first served. There will be a waiting line.

•It’s best to get in line for your picture after you dance at the Dress Rehearsal.

•If you get in line before your Dress Rehearsal number, do so at least 45 minutes prior to your starting time. If your Dress Rehearsal number is set to go on stage (we cannot wait), you will have to get out of line.

•On stage, students must wear their hair as required for their class and as described during our costume week. If students wish to have a specialized “photo” hairdo for their picture that is different than what they need for the stage, they may do so; however, leave enough time to change into or out of it, and do not wear this photo hairdo on stage.

•If you have many numbers and time is tight, consider the picture day at the studio.

If you cannot make these times contact Sidney Studios at (610) 565-4095. Their web site is: www.sidneystudios.com.

Dress Rehearsal Photo Policy

Since there is no photography of any kind allowed during the recital, many families take photographs at the dress rehearsal. Non-flash pictures can be taken at any time during the dress rehearsal. Video cameras may be used at any time during the Dress Rehearsal on the second platform above the stage. However, flash pictures are blinding and dangerous to the dancers. Please do not take flash pictures while the students are dancing. At the end of each number, we will set the children in a group pose; flash pictures may then be taken.

No Photography During the Recital

To be fair to all, there can be no photographs taken and no video cameras or cell phone cameras used during the actual performance for any reason. If you wish to have a video or pictures of your child, you must take them at the Dress Rehearsal and NOT at the performance. Cameras can block the view of others and be extremely disruptive. The light emitted from cell phone cameras is annoying to everyone behind you. We will not accept or tolerate the arguments and fights that have erupted in the audience among parents at other studios’ recitals over the use of cameras during the actual show. Cameras will be removed from the audience for safe keeping if they are used during the Recital, and people may be asked to leave the auditorium. Being a member of the audience means that you will be considerate of others and not take pictures from the audience during the show.

Swarthmore College Grounds

The grounds of Swarthmore College are beautifully landscaped, providing a lovely background for outdoor photos like the one to the left. If the weather cooperates, you can get some beautiful pictures of your dancer before or after the Dress Rehearsal or Recital.
